In today's digital age, ensuring the online safety of our children is paramount. As the internet becomes increasingly integral to their social development, it's essential to equip young people with the knowledge and tools to navigate the online world safely.
Safer Internet Day 2025, taking place on 11th February, focusses on the theme "Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online." This initiative aims to educate young people about the risks of online scams and the importance of safeguarding themselves and their peers.
Research highlights the need for children to understand how their online activity impacts themselves and others, as well as the digital footprint they create. The sense of anonymity online can sometimes lead to risky behaviour, making it crucial for young people to recognise who can access, share, and misuse the information they post.
Parents and caregivers play a key role in helping children develop positive online habits. Open conversations about digital experiences, setting clear boundaries about a child’s online safety. By fostering an environment of trust and communication, we can empower children to make informed choices and navigate the digital world responsibly.
At Loyola Prep, we will be marking Safer Internet Day with activities throughout the week, helping pupils develop the awareness and skills they need to stay safe online. The week will culminate in a special Safer Internet Day assembly on Friday, 14th February, where we will reinforce these key messages and encourage positive digital behaviours.
