    Welcome to Loyola

Loyola's Headmistress with boysHaving three boys myself, I wanted them to be educated in a nurturing environment that would promote intellectual curiosity, strong values, resilience, a love of learning and, most importantly, that they would be happy.

I found this immediately at Loyola and this is why I joined the school not only as a parent but also as an educator.

Since becoming Headmistress in 2018, we have continued to promote the values so important to Loyola: that every child is supported to be happy and to use their talents to become the very best version of themselves; all with the love and support of their community – the Loyola family.

This family ethos is created by having small classes (single form entry) with a dedicated teacher and teaching assistant in every class plus strong communication between school and home. We believe in working together.

As a Catholic boys school, learning and faith go hand in hand by providing a nurturing environment that fosters both academic excellence and spiritual growth. At Loyola, all are welcome, including children from diverse faith backgrounds as well as those with no religious beliefs.

We guide each student to become responsible, multicultural citizens through a broad curriculum that highlights:

    • Academia- each year we receive academic scholarships to top independent schools and boys successfully sit for Eton & Harrow (see Destination Schools)
    • Athletics - we compete at high levels in local and national tournaments plus support pupils who play at county or club level in cricket and football
    • Artistic talents - participate in local & national art exhibitions and competitions, host drama productions in all year groups; sing at local events such as care homes plus at more prestigious venues, Cadogan Hall, The Royal Albert Hall and recently participated in a pilgrimage to Lourdes
    • Linguistics - Spanish is taught throughout school and Latin in our higher years) whilst instilling values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law (through our excellent PSHE curriculum and visits to places such as Westminster, The Houses of Parliament, speakers at assemblies and mock elections in school) and, above all else kindness and respect for others.

Boy playing guitarSpecialist teachers throughout the school (music, PE, languages, computing & art) mean that the boys receive the best teaching possible with resources being up-to-date and continually evolving whether in the computer suite, the dedicated art or science room or equipment for use on the all-weather pitch. In years 3-6, classes are streamed for maths & English with 2 dedicated teachers and a teaching assistant between the one class.

We know that boys learn best when teaching is tailored to their interests, and they understand the importance of their own voice. Our timetable supports longer lessons in the morning when concentration is at its optimum and shorter, more practical lessons in the afternoon. The successes we have with offers to top independent secondary schools are testament to this. (see destination schools)

The many in-school and extra-curricular activities (seLoyola boys playing rugbye Wrap Around Care) allows boys to take their passions further or to try out new experiences such as sailing or trampolining, which they may not have been so willing to do within a co-educational setting.

Parents are regularly invited into school.  This might be for lunch with their son, attending our weekly Mass or assembly, giving a mini presentation to a class about their vocation, helping on a class trip or attending a PTA event.  We have an open door policy and encourage parents to be a part of the school and a part of the Loyola family.

We are so proud that when our boys embark on the next stage of their educational journey they do so with confidence in who they are, upholding the school values and being a model citizen, remembering that, “Everything we do is for the greater glory of God -“Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam”

I hope I have helped you to understand our enthusiasm for enabling children to reach their potential.  I look forward to hearing from you and I hope to have the opportunity to personally introduce you to our school.
