At Loyola, our English curriculum centres on the power of high-quality children's literature to ignite curiosity, broaden perspectives, and foster empathy. Through engaging with diverse texts, students build essential Oracy and Literacy skills, becoming confident communicators who can express their ideas clearly and listen respectfully.
Boys regularly take part in public speaking, right from “Show & Tell” in Kindergarten to giving presentations or taking part in interviews in Rudiments (Y6).
We aim to instil a lifelong love of reading, enhance personal growth and cultural awareness. Alongside reading, we develop versatile writing skills, guiding students in using writing as a powerful tool for expression and real-world communication.
Lessons are differentiated and challenge all pupils to edit and create their “best” work at all times. From Prep (Y3), our classes are taught in 2 smaller groups, allowing some to be further challenged and work at a faster pace and for others to fully embed the learning taking place.
Our goal is for every child to leave Loyola with strong literacy skills, including a passion for creativity and confidence in public speaking.
