Languages

At Loyola, pupils in Reception start to learn Spanish as it introduces children to new cultures, vocabulary, and ways of thinking. Spanish is taught through simple phrases, songs, and everyday vocabulary, helping our pupils build basic conversational skills and confidence in speaking.

As part of Loyola's Gifted and Talented programme, Latin is taught in a small group to those pupils in Figures and Rudiments (Y 5 & 6) who have demonstrated a natural flair for languages. Latin focusses on foundational words and phrases that enhance understanding of English and other languages, as many words have Latin roots.

Both languages support literacy skills, boost memory, and spark interest in global cultures, providing children with tools for future language learning.

All language lessons taught at Loyola are provided by specialist language teachers.
