At Loyola, we believe that children deserve the best start to their education. Boys have the opportunity to join our school family from their third birthday. Our Early Years team strive to provide a safe, happy, supported and secure learning environment and our foundation team gets to know and form relationships with the boys right from the start of their school years. Kindergarten staff are able to monitor and support the boys' development and liaise closely with the Reception teacher to support the transition to their next stage of learning.
Relationships can be established with parents from the very earliest opportunity, enabling trusting and authentic parental engagement as the children continue through the primary school system. Our boys form lifelong friendships and take comfort in having friends around them as they transition into Reception. They are able to get used to school routines and the environment to support their transition to become confident, resilient learners ready and eager to embrace school life.
Our Kindergarten class has 1 classteacher and 2 full-time teaching assistants so that we can fully support the exciting start of a child’s educational journey and tailor our curriculum to individuals. As the boys become more independent, we move into Reception with 1 full-time teacher and teaching assistant. We follow the Early Years Framework and work towards achieving the Early Learning Goals by the end of Reception.
As with the rest of the school, we start to introduce the boys to specialist teachers, with Kindergarten and Reception having specialist Music & Movement, Music and PE teaching, and in Reception we also introduce the boys to Spanish as a new language.
